Welfare

Child Protection

As a caring organisation with direct responsibility for children, our first concern must be your child's welfare in all its aspects and therefore there may be occasions when we have to consult other agencies, even before we contact you, particularly in relation to Child Protection/Welfare concerns. Should it be necessary, we would like to reassure you that any concerns we might have about your child will then be discussed with you, after we have talked with the other agency. The procedures we have to follow (it is a statutory duty) have been laid down by the Department for Education & Skills (DfES) Circular 10/95 "Protecting Children from Abuse: The Role of the Education Service". If you would like to know more about this procedure please speak to the Headteacher. Enquiries are welcome and may be directed to Mrs. Lynette Adams (Learning Support Co-ordinator), Headteacher and/or class teacher and further information for parents may be gained from the Governing Body's Annual Report.

Medicine

Medicines, prescribed by your child's doctor, may, in exceptional circumstances, be administered in school by the office staff, however, a form (ADMED 2) must be completed by the parent/guardian prior to any medication being given. The medicine should be clearly labelled with your child's name and the exact dosage. It must then be kept in the medicine cabinet in the school office. Your child must remember to come to the office when the medicine is due - he or she will not be reminded.

Asthma Inhalers

Where prescribed, and once proficiency in usage has been mastered, the inhaler should be kept as close to your child as possible, i.e.in a safe pocket or easily accessible school bag. Alternatively, the inhaler may be kept in the school office for immediate access by your child. All inhalers must be clearly labelled with child's name and class. Regular checks must be made by parents to ensure the inhaler is in date and that there is an adequate supply.

Nut Allergies

We have children who have serious nut allergies attending this school. Should they come into contact with another child or person who has recently eaten or handled nuts, or touch any surface contaminated by a nut derivative, the consequences could prove to be fatal. With this in mind, we request that your children do not bring nuts or any nut contaminated substance to school, particularly in their packed lunch boxes, so that the well being of the affected children can be safe-guarded. Should your child have eaten any food containing nuts of any kind, prior to coming to school, please could you ensure that their hands and faces are carefully washed before they leave home. Your vigilance in this serious matter will be greatly appreciated and we thank you in anticipation of your co-operation.
